For this edition of Good Frequencies, in collaboration with On The Jungle Floor, we’re spending some time with Jungle, going across a catalogue that’s slowly become one of the most recognisable sounds in modern dance music. Rather than focusing on just one record, we’ll be dipping into different moments from across all five albums, from their self-titled debut in 2014 through to Sunshine in 2026. Looking at how the project has changed, grown and somehow still managed to always sound very distinctly like Jungle. Jungle started in London in 2013 with childhood friends Josh Lloyd-Watson and Tom McFarland. What began as a deliberately low-profile project quickly grew into a seven-piece live band, with their self-titled debut arriving in 2014 and helping establish that mix of funk, soul, disco and electronic music that has stayed at the centre of their sound. The visual side became just as important, with Jungle’s one-shot dance videos becoming almost inseparable from the music itself. Over the years, the project has continued to evolve, both musically and visually, while keeping a distinct character of its own. For Good Frequencies, we’ll move around the catalogue on vinyl, jumping between records, key tracks and different eras depending on where the conversation takes us. We’ll get into the songwriting, the live band, the visual world around Jungle, recurring influences and how their sound has kept evolving. More than anything, the idea is to spend some proper time with the records. We’ll listen, stop every now and then, talk about what we’re hearing, probably go off on a few tangents and then put the needle back down.
